Tibetan Singing Bowls

Chakras are energy centers which govern the subtle, Psychosomatic Aspects of our existence. Chakras are located along the center of the body. Chakra means wheel. When one comes into balance the chakras spin in a clockwise direction and open like flowers pouring out their qualities, re-establishing our inner balance and restoring our health and vitality. The powerful vibrations of the bowl quickly spread through our bodies and balances us. Many people use the bowls for chakra and energy healing. We use the traditional Chakra method when determining the corresponding Chakra for each bowl by using the dominant note in each bowl. Below is a list of the traditional Chakra system.

Root Chakra (muladhara) the first chakra which is at the base of the spine is the foundation of the entire chakra system. Also called the Base chakra, it is located at the base of the spine. It is associated with issues of survival, drive, ambition, grounding one's energy in the physical dimension, your life forces. It is the ground that supports and nourishes you. Feel yourself grounding into mother earth. It balances experiences that create "fight or flight".  Red is the color of the root chakra and the musical note is C. When balanced you are centered, grounded, healthy, and fully alive. (Note C)

Sacral Chakra (svadishtana) is the second chakra which is about 3 fingers below the navel. It is associated with creativity, sexuality, relationship, and reproduction. Orange. is the color of the sacral or second chakra and the musical note is D.
The element is water which nurtures creativity and good relationships. When balanced you have graceful movements, ability to embrace change, nurture yourself and others, and have great passion in your life (Note D).

3rd Chakra (Manipura) is the solar-plexus, it is located midway between the end of the breastbone and the navel. It is associated with issues of personal power, emotions (especially blocked emotions), passion for living, and the ability to protect oneself from being the target of negative or aggressive emotions. Yellow is the color of the solar plexus chakra and the musical note is E.
Your intuitive organ. The element is fire and when balanced nothing can stop you or disappoint you. (Note E)

4th Chakra (Anahata) is the heart. The Heart chakra is positioned in the center of the chest, usually shown to be even with the Heart. This chakra is associated with compassion, friendship, empathy and the ability to give and receive love. Green is the color of the heart chakra and the musical note is F. Sometimes the heart chakra is shown as pink, especially in relation to sending love out from the heart.
Here you have your love, kindness, and compassion. (Note F)

5th Chakra (Vishuddha) is the Throat Chakra. The Throat chakra is positioned in the base of throat. It is associated with communication, expression and speaking one's truth. Azure Blue is the color of the throat chakra and the musical note is G.
When in balance you have clear communications, speak the truth, resonate full voice and live creatively. (Note G)

6th Chakra (Ajna) is the 3rd inner eye between and above the eyebrows ("Imagination is more important then knowledge" Albert Einstein) When balanced you have strong intuition and creative imagination. It is associated with understanding, psychic, extrasensory abilities, visualization, and inner vision. Dark Indigo Blue is the color of the third eye chakra and the musical note is A. (Note A)

7th Chakra (Sahasrara) The crown Chakra on top of the head. It is associated with cosmic awareness, highest spirituality, and complete integration with Source. Buddha Shakyamuni (2500 Years Ago).
Singing Bowls were brought to Tibet from India along with the teachings of Lord Buddha.  Most people use these bowls for Buddhist spiritual meditation or to create a great art or conversation piece.

Since Tibetan singing bowls have a very mysterious history it is sometimes hard to find information about them, in fact there is literally no mention of them in the Tibetan Buddhist canon. They can be found in both monasteries and homes, but when questioned about their existence vague answers are usually given. It has been rumored that it is actually forbidden for monks to speak about the singing bowls. Some say that the bowls are used by high lamas in secret rituals, which gives them the ability to travel to different realms and dimensions. In the end one thing remains certain, that singing bowls are a very powerful spiritual tool. In addition to their traditional usage for meditation, Tibetan Singing Bowls are used for Relaxation, Stress Reduction, Healing, and Reiki.

These bowls were hand hammered alloys made of seven metals. Gold (Representing Sun) Silver (Representing Moon) Mercury (Representing Mercury) Copper (Representing Venus) Iron (Representing Mars) Tin (Representing Jupiter) and Lead (Representing Saturn) Some says there are eight metals the last one from heaven Meteorite. Hand made in a wonderful combination of 7 different metals which create 7 different distinct tones, according to tradition.

Unlike some of the other Tibetan ritual instruments whose use is well recorded in the Tibetan Buddhist books, there is nothing written about the Singing Bowls even though they have been found both in monasteries and altars of private homes. Some accounts says that it is forbidden to talk about the bowls in the monasteries. Only the highest lamas or Rinpoches use them behind the closed door for secret rituals. Tibetan Singing Bowls produces sounds which invoke a deep state of relaxation which naturally helps one entering in the meditation.

We tend to avoid specific dating these types of bowls. Some of these bowls date back to the late 18th century. Dating bowls is a tricky business, since their form varies a little over long expanses of time, and their condition depends so much upon individual conditions of storage and use. They should be viewed as cultural artifacts of artistic merit; age is of secondary importance. We will however state that all the bowls shown here were created for local use and were used as such. These bowls are all from the Himalayas regions near Tibet.
